Chief Minister Mayawati has in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requested him to make a provision of reservation for minorities particularly Muslims in accordance with their population.
In her communication to the PM,the CM has mentioned that if needed an amendment in the Constitution can also be considered to make provision for giving reservation to Muslims. She has assured the PM that her government is committed to extend its full cooperation in this regard.
According to the CMs letter to Singh,the provision was needed to create opportunities for Muslims in accordance with their population.
Mayawati said she firmly believed that there was an urgent need to provide opportunities to minorities particularly Muslims for their progress in every field of their life including education and employment. She added the religious minorities particularly Muslims have remained backward even 64 years of independence in the country. She also referred to the Sachar Committee report in support of her statement.
According to Mayawati,the Sachar committee report has given several suggestions such as increasing opportunities for Muslims in education,economic activities and for providing proper share for them in the employment for their welfare. She has requested the PM to give top priority to this subject of high importance.
