Lightning kills four in Saurashtra

As many as four people have been reported dead in the last 24 hours in Saurashtra as heavy rains have lashed the region.

Two persons in Surendranagar and one each in Rajkot and Amreli died in lightning strikes. Many parts of these four districts recorded between one and 1.5 inches of rainfall,but large parts of the seven districts in the region remained cloudy and dry.

One Firoz Kasam (22) died after lightning struck him while crossing the Bhagvo river in Wadhwan in Surendranagar,while Savita Tadvi (32),a migrant agricultural labourer from Dabhoi,died when lightning struck her while she was working at her farm in Ratanpar village in Dhrangadhra taluka. The Surendranagar police have registered two cases of accidental death. In Amreli,which experienced rainfall accompanied by high velocity winds,Govind Mundana (22),a shepherd,died at Chapathal village on the outskirts of Amreli city.

At Bedla village in Rajkot district,Babu Koli (32),the caretaker of a farm house,died when lightning struck,said the police. In all the incidents,the victims were killed on the spot.
