Kothrud shootout case: five more accomplices of Marne arrested

The city police have arrested five more accomplices of history-sheeter Gajanan Marne on Sunday evening.

The city police have arrested five more accomplices of history-sheeter Gajanan Marne on Sunday evening. Marne and his accomplices had allegedly opened fire at their rival and notorious criminal Nilesh Ghaiwal near Cummins Company in Kothrud on June 13.

Those arrested were identified as Jyotiba alias Kalyan Vitthal Kamble (27),Swapnil alias Pappu alias Yeda Dilip Tonde (21),Santosh Rupesh Akhade (22),Atul Laxman Jagtap (20) and Rupesh Marne. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) G G Itkalkar remanded the accused to police custody till July 1.

Public prosecutor A V Ausekar said that custodial interrogation of the accused is necessary to investigate the rivalry between Marne and the Ghaiwal gang.

Marne had surrendered before the court last Wednesday and was remanded to police custody. Following which the police arrested his two accomplices Ananat Kadam (25) of Gujrath Colony,Kothrud and Atul alias Pappu Kudle (25) of Dattawadi on Friday.

Gajanan Marne and his gang members had allegedly opened fire at their rival Nilesh Ghaiwal gang and attacked them with sharp weapons near Cummins office around 10 pm on June 13. Ghaiwal and his associates were on motorcycles and a jeep near Cummins office,when the Marne gang intercepted and attacked them.

Pappu Kudale,a close aide of Marne,allegedly hit Ghaiwal on his head with a sharp chopper. Two other associates of Ghaiwal were also injured in the fight. The bullet,allegedly fired by Marne,missed the target,after which the gangsters fled the spot.
