Keep PM out of Lokpal ,says Bansal

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs,Earth Sciences and Science and Technology,Pawan Bansal today said the Prime Minister should be kept out of the purview of the Lokpal Bill.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs,Earth Sciences and Science and Technology,Pawan Bansal today said the Prime Minister should be kept out of the purview of the Lokpal Bill. Bansal said that in his opinion the Lokpal should be for ministers of the Centre while Lokayuktas should operate at the state level.

Bansal was addressing a delegates conference at Chandigarh organised by the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee. Leaders of all ranks who addressed the gathering criticised the campaigns that were being held for the Lokpal Bill and blasted the BJP’s stance on the issue. Bansal said that the Prime Minister should be left out of the purview of the anti-corruption bill,as constant finger pointing would not enable the PM to function.

Bansal pointed out that there were around 1.20 crore government employees in the country. “How can you expect one Lokpal to listen to complaints against them? In my opinion, the Lokpal should only be for the ministers at the Centre. This would ensure that in case there are allegations against a minister they are looked into and speedy action is taken. Similarly in the states,Lokayuktas should be there who would look into complaints against the legislators,” said Bansal.

He emphasised that there should be a provision wherein if the complaints are found to be false there should be action against the complainant. Bansal said the issue was a conspiracy by the BJP to grab power. The BJP,he alleged has not been able to overthrow the Congress so keeps creating obstacles.

“Some people think they are more powerful than the crores of people who have voted for the government. They are trying to make a mockery of our democratic institutions. The word civil society is being used by them. But are they thinking of everyone. If the Lokpal will decide everything it will lead to anarchy. The government won’t bend before them,” he said.

Bansal said that it is the habit of BJP to use others for their gain. This time they are using this movement to divert attention from Sangh terrorism,he said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by the National General Secretary of All India Congres Committee and incharge of Chandigarh ,Gulchain Singh Charak. Charak said attempts were being made to defame the Congress. BJP is frustrated at losing the elections in States where they could win just 5 seats out of 411. The party is venting out its frustration by dancing at the Rajghat or planning such movements,he added.
