Describing opinion polls as a mockery of democracy,JD(U) president Sharad Yadav has in a communication to the Election Commission registered his partys opposition to them. I am completely against the idea of opinion polls in this country.. Our party has always rejected the idea of opinion polls.. I believe that opinion poll is a mockery, Yadav said in a two-page letter to Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath Tuesday. The stand taken by Yadav is similar to the one advocated by the Congress and the BSP. I may point out here that money plays a major role in survey in the name of opinion polls and there are only two parties in the country which can spend enormous money on this, Yadav said in an obvious reference to the Congress and the BJP. He sought to link opinion polls with big money and said the vote of an individual has been a great strength in democracy,which is slowly being captured by moneyed people through wealthy political parties. The opinion polls,in his view,are being used for making gains in elections. The JD(U) chief pointed out that there was no agency in the country which could see whether surveys being conducted by different companies were genuine or money was coming in to play.
