Pawan Bansal gave ‘illegal favours’ as minister for water resources

Bansal allegedly doled out illegal favours during his tenure from July 2011 to Oct 2012.

His dealings in the ministries of railways and finance are under a cloud and now Chandigarh BJP chief Sanjay Tandon has alleged that Pawan Kumar Bansal doled out illegal favours when he was water resources minister from July 2011 to October 2012.

Bansal gave permission,in a May 4,2012 letter,to dig tube wells to,among other firms,Motia Townships Ltd,which had given share application money of Rs 30 lakh to Mirage Infra Pvt Ltd in which Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla is a director. Singla has been arrested for accepting bribe from a senior railways official to get him the post of his choice.

Bansal has denied business relations with Singla but these transactions seem more than a coincidence, said Tandon, who gave records of these transaction to the CBI on Friday.

The records also reveal that several firms invested in Mirage Infra but did not mention in their records though the money is accounted by Mirage. Ridhi Industries, which had a capital of just Rs 1.1 lakh gave a loan and advance of Rs 2.79 crore to Mirage but didn’t show it in balance sheet. Similarly,Malerkotla Steels loaned Rs 2.60 crore and Garg Pipes loaned Rs 1.2 crore to Mirage.

“How is it possible that a firm that has given a loan is not showing it in its balance sheet even when it is reflected in the balance sheet of the receiving firm,” Tandon said. “Also how could a company whose capital is Rs 1.1 lakh give a loan of around Rs 3 crore.”
