Cong to resist any move to bring again 2G report before PAC

A senior Congress leader, who is a member of the PAC,said that any move to bring again for consideration the CAG report before the prestigious committee will be resisted.

Another confrontation between the Congress and opposition in the reconstituted Public Accounts Committee is possible if any attempt is made again to bring the CAG report on the 2G spectrum scam for consideration.

A senior Congress leader, who is a member of the PAC,said that any move to bring again for consideration the CAG report before the prestigious committee will be resisted.

The remarks of the leader, who declined to be identified, came close on the heels of Speaker Meira Kumar returning the controversial draft report filed by PAC Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi on the 2G spectrum allocation.

The rare action, seen as a snub to Joshi, came about one-and-a-half months after the BJP leader submitted the draft report to the Speaker on April 30,the last date of his previous term.

He had sent it to the Speaker unmindful of ‘rejection’ of the draft report on 2G scam by UPA members.

The draft report was sharply critical of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,PMO and the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram among others. It also came down heavily on former telecom minister A Raja.

Rules stipulate that committee reports could be tabled in both the Houses of Parliament only after it was approved by the panel that prepared it.

Terming as “unconstitutional” the claim that 11 MPs of the 21-member committee had “rejected” the report,he had said such a possibility does not exist till the report is read by members and “discussed” para by para.

Against the backdrop of the Speaker returning the report,Joshi yesterday said that the Congress will have to “face the music for supporting corruption” in the upcoming session of Parliament.
