The Special Investigation Team (SIT),probing the Surat sisters sexual assault case against Asaram,cross-questioned the self-styled godman in front of his wife, daughter, and a sadhvi of his ashram on Monday. The cross-questioning was done after Asarams second round of check up at the Sola Civil Hospital here. Asarams wife Laxmi was called a day earlier. However, she complained of chest pain and left without giving any information to the SIT. Asaram had appeared for the first stage of potency test, but refused to appear for the second part where doctors would have injected drug stimulants. Sources in the SIT said that Asaram refused to appear for the second part of the preliminary test, claiming that injectable drugs can increase his heart rate and blood pressure, his heart is weak and he might suffer a heart attack. Asaram also refused to give semen samples to doctors, claiming that his first test was positive and he doesnt require to appear for the other tests. After Asaram was brought back to the Anti Terrorist Squad office, where he has been lodged since October 14,he was cross-questioned by SIT officials. He was told to answer the same questions that were asked during his cross-questioning in front of the Surat sisters two days ago. The SIT first recorded the statements of Asarams wife, daughter Bharti, followed by statements of Sadhvi Dhruvi, who is alleged to have coaxed women to visit Asarams Shanti Kutir, the farmhouse where he allegedly sexually assaulted them. Dhruvi is also alleged to have threatened and forced women for abortion. The SIT made Asaram, his wife, daughter and Dhruvi sit face to face and asked them questions about the Surat sisters and grilled them over allegations that girls in his ashrams were forced to go to Shanti Kutir and also forced to abort. Sources said that Dhruvi admitted to the Surat sisters being brought to Shanti Kutir, but claimed that she was unaware of what happened inside the premises. Asarams remand period will be over on Tuesday after which he would be produced in Gandhinagar Sessions Court.
