AIADMK petitions Lt Guv against inducting AIADMK nominated MLAs

AIADMK allege Chief Minister N Rangaswamy of trying to acquire majority by inducting three nominated MLAs.

AIADMK on Thursday petitioned Lt Governor Iqbal Singh against the reported move of Chief Minister N Rangasamy to induct three nominated MLAs before conducting the election to the post of Assembly Speaker, alleging that it was an attempt to acquire majority.

A delegation comprising all five legislators AIADMK met the Lt Governor and presented a memorandum in this regard,a day after Rangasamy met Congress President Sonia Gandhi amid speculation that he would seek the party’s support for his month-old government.

Leader of AIADMK Legislature Party A.Anbalagan, who headed the delegation, told reporters that the Chief Minister’s move to induct the three nominated legislators was “a clear attempt to strengthen (acquire majority for)” his government before holding the election to office of the Speaker.

“We have requested the Lt Governor to first direct theChief Minister to prove majority of his government in the House by holding election to office of Speaker beforeattempting to have three nominated legislators,” he said.

He said absence of independent MLA V M C Sivakumar, who has extended support to the formation of Rangasamy Ministry after the recent assembly elections,at the expansion of the ministry on June 8 and “internal dissensions” in AINRC had given rise to misgivings about stability of the government.

AIADMK,which had contested the elections in alliance with the AINRC,had parted ways accusing Rangasamy of betrayal by forming a government of his own.

Anbalagan said the AIADMK had already written to the President, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister objecting to the move of the Chief Minister for appointment of the three nominated legislators.
