Admn seeks status report on development in villages

UT administrator and Punjab Governor General S F Rodrigues (Retd) has asked the Municipal Commissioner to submit a status report on the development projects undertaken in villages.

UT administrator and Punjab Governor General S F Rodrigues (Retd) has asked the Municipal Commissioner to submit a status report on the development projects undertaken in villages. The directions were issued during a public hearing session at the UT Secretariat on Monday.

The report will focus on the provision of basic civic amenities including water,power supply,road network and sewerage in villages.

Emphasising the need for effective strategies for development of infrastructure in Education City,General Rodrigues said that after the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies,other institutions also plan to set up complexes here.

Necessary infrastructural facilities like auditoriums,shopping centres and polyclinics would be set up in the city,he added.

The Administrator also asked the Home Secretary to identify NGOs to manage the day-to-day functioning of charitable institutions,recently set up by the UT.

Speaking about the various projects in the city,Rodrigues said the Administration has strictly pursued the policies and programmes in a fair and impartial manner with no deviation from set procedures. He added that plans of every developmental project and welfare scheme have been chalked out under the expert advice of professionals keeping in mind the larger interests of citizens.

Responding to a request for regularising an illegally constructed religious place on government land,General Rodrigues said there is no provision in the law for construction of unauthorised buildings.

Secretary to Governor M P Singh,Home Secretary Ram Niwas,DIG Mahabir Singh,Deputy Commissioner Brijendra Singh,Deputy Commissioner, Chairman of Chandigarh Housing Board Mohanjeet Singh and MC Additional Commissioner P K Sharma were also present on the occasion.

The Administrator also asked senior officers to give priority to promotion of rural sports and make them an annual feature in its sports calendar. He said that Maloya village should be developed as a rural sports centre with a stadium and playground equipped with modern sports infrastructure.
