BJP president Rajnath Singh trashed the alleged tapes that carried conversation between BJP leader Amit Shah and an IPS officer.

Alleging that the expose was manipulated by the Congress and the CBI for electoral purposes,BJP president Rajnath Singh trashed the alleged tapes that carried conversation between BJP leader Amit Shah and an IPS officer.

Talking to reporters in Raipur,he questioned the authenticity of the tapes and said: “The Cobrapost has said that it does not vouch for the authenticity of the tapes. What is the issue then?”

Noting that the alleged tapes are over four years old,he said,“Why were they released now? They were with the CBI,who gave them to Cobrapost? It must be probed.”

He pointed out that the father of the woman, against whom the alleged snooping was carried out by the Gujarat government following the orders of Shah, had already clarified the issue.

“If a father seeks protection for his daughter,is it not the responsibility of the government to provide it?”

He noted that the Congress is trying to defame BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi but it would not damage the party’s prospects. “I want to alert citizens that Congress will try to defame Modi as election approaches, but I also want to tell the Congress that more you throw mud on him, more stronger the BJP will emerge.”
