Raignaj: In the wake of a large number of candidates contesting from the seat, the Election Commission has decided to put two EVMs/ballot units at every polling booth in the Raiganj constituency. “This time Raiganj constituency has a total of 20 candidates, out of whom 19 are men. As a large number of candidates in fray, it was not possible to include all names in one ballot unit. Hence, two ballot units will be there for the voters,” said an EC official.
Darjeeling: BJP candidate from Darjeeling Raju Bista on Thursday filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India against the party’s Kurseong MLA Bishnu Prasad Sharma, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from the same constituency as an Independent. On Wednesday, Sharma had alleged that Bista had given “undue advantage to a company under the Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission scheme”. Denying the allegations, Bista said that he was never a part of the Jal Jeevan Mission committee in Darjeeling district. In his letter to the EC, he sought steps against Sharma and said he was “trying to influence the voters” ahead of the election.
