Thiruvananthapuram Election Results 2024: After a close fight, Congress incumbent MP Shashi Tharoor won Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat against BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar for a record fourth term. In the early trends, BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar was leading, however, Tharoor later gained the lead and won the seat by a small margin of over 16,077 votes.
The Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, which encompasses seven assembly segments, is a stronghold seat of the Congress. To elect the 18th Lok Sabha assembly, it was scheduled to go into the polls in Phase 2 on April 26, 2024.
It witnessed a high-stakes battle in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections between Shashi Tharoor, the three-time sitting MP from Congress, versus BJP debutant Rajeev Chandrasekhar and third-time contender Pannyan Raveendran from the CPM-led LDF.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dr. Shashi Tharoor of the INC won the seat by a margin of 99,989 votes, securing 41.19% of the total votes cast. He defeated Kummanam Rajasekharan of the BJP, who received 31.30% of the votes. C. Divakaran of the CPI came in third with 25.60% of the votes.
The voter turnout in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was 72.17%. This turnout is slightly lower than the 73.74% recorded in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Looking at the exit polls for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Kerala were released on June 1.
C-Voter predicted that the UDF would win 17 to 19 seats and the NDA 1-3. Axis My India forecasted that the Congress would win 13–14 seats, the BJP 2-3 seats, and the LDF 0-1, thereby indicating that the Congress-led UDF is likely to maintain its dominance in Kerala, while the NDA is set to make its presence felt in the state by securing at least one seat.
As the 2024 Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha elections are expected to be a closely watched contest, with both the BJP and the INC vying for the seat, the official results are set to be announced on Tuesday, June 4, as set by the ECI.
