Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday hit out at the Opposition — Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress — for “questioning the existence of Ram and Krishna” and urged the voters to send these parties on “five-year leave” by voting them out.

Campaigning for Raj Kumar Chahar, the BJP candidate from the Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha seat, Adityanath reiterated that after Ayodhya and Kashi it is time for the Brajbhoomi of the state to shine. “Ab Brajbhoomi ka number aane wala hai. Ayodhya aur Kashi (Varanasi) ne apne lakshya ko pa liya. Ab aapki baari hai (Now it’s the turn of the Brij region after Ayodhya and Kashi (Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and Vishwanath temple) achieved their goals. It’s your turn now),” he added.

Chahar, the sitting MP and national president of the BJP’s Kisan Morcha, is pitted against the BSP’s Ram Niwas Sharma and Congress candidate Ram Nath Sikarwar.

Voting for the Fatehpur Sikri seat will be held on May 7.

“In logon ko keh do ki vote to kamal ko denge aur tumhe paanch saal ki chhutti. Tum mafia ki qabar par fatiha padho (Just tell these people that you will vote for the lotus (BJP symbol) and send them on five-year leave. They can recite the fatiha on the graves of criminals),” the CM said.

The Chief Minister’s fatiha remark was a reference to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s visit to the house of late mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in the first week of this month to extend condolences to his family members.

The CM said that while the BJP talks of nation, those in Opposition raise issues related to caste, community and dynasties.

“Beware of these elements as they weaken the country through their parochial caste, communal or family considerations before extending welfare schemes to people. But the BJP ensures “sabka saath, sabka vikas” (development of all). Our welfare schemes are extended to every citizen of our community without any bias on caste and communal lines. Security and development for all but appeasement to none is our motto,” he said.

Invoking Pakistan yet again in his speech, the CM said the neighbouring country got a larger geographical area vis-à-vis population than India in 1947, but now 23 crore people there have no food while 80 crore people are getting free ration here.

Also, at least 22 crore people have been pulled out of the poverty line in the last 10 years, he added.

He accused the leaders of the SP, BSP and Congress of finding ways to usurp the money meant for the poor and farmers and claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several welfare measures for them.
