‘Do ladkon ki flop jodi’ joined hands to stab OBCs in back: PM jibe at Rahul & Akhilesh

Modi alleges that the Congress will implement reservation on the basis of religion by 'stealing' from 27% quota of OBCs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Thursday that the Congress and the Samajwadi Party led by Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav were a “do ladkon ki jodi” (a pair of two boys) that despite having flopped several times in the past has come together yet again to stab the other backward classes (OBCs) in the back.

Addressing a public meeting in support of BJP candidate in Shahjahanpur, the PM said that himself being an OBC, the Karnataka model of reservation scared him. “Do ladkon ki jodi…jo khud kai baar flop ho chuki hai…aap unse vikaas ki umeed kar sakte hain kya? (Do you expect any development from the pair of two boys that failed so many times),” Modi asked the crowd.

His government, the PM said, not only developed medical colleges but also constructed the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, alleging that when the SP and the Congress were in power Uttar Pradesh witnessed bomb blasts in places like Ayodhya, Varanasi, Lucknow and Kanpur.

Accusing the Congress of doing the “politics of appeasement”, Modi said the party has again released a “flop show film” in which only two dialogues are being repeated. The dialogues of the party’s flop film, he said, were “Modi jeet jayega to tanashahi aa jayegi aur Modi jeet jayega to arakshan chala jayega” (There will be dictatorship and that reservation will go if Modi wins). Both these are false propaganda.”

“The Karnataka reservation model is quite dangerous. I got scared being an OBC myself,” he said, adding that the policy provides reservation to all categories of Muslims through the OBC route.

“Why is the SP completely silent on the issue of OBC reservation? Has it also become an opponent of reservation for backward communities? Will UP’s OBCs such as Mauryas, Kurmis, Yadavs and Kushwahas tolerate this highhandedness?” he asked.

If given an opportunity, the PM said, he would propose 10 per cent reservation for the poor from general categories such as Brahmins, Rajputs and Baniyas. “The son of a Brahmin, Kshatriya or a Baniya can also be poor. Today, such poor families are getting benefits of our schemes.”

The PM reiterated his allegations that the Congress, if voted to power, will usurp the lands and other assets of people and distribute them among its vote bank to woo them.

Even the SP was with them in this conspiracy, he added.

Earlier, addressing a rally in Agra, Modi said the Congress will implement reservation on the basis of religion by “stealing from the 27% quota of OBCs”.

“Since Independence it was clear that reservation will never be given on the basis of religion in India. This is the basic spirit of the Constitution… But the Congress has started playing this game through the back door,” said Modi, asking the people to vote for BJP’s Agra candidate S P Singh Baghel and Fatehpur Sikri nominee Raj Kumar Chahar.

He alleged that the Congress “insulted” late B R Ambedkar and the Constitution. “The Congress government in Karnataka declared all Muslim castes as OBCs overnight on a paper… The rights of the OBCs have been robbed. The Congress intends to play the same game in UP too. Wherever they get a chance in the country, they rob the OBCs, SCs and STs of their rights,” said the PM, adding that OBC castes Kurmi, Maurya, Kushwaha, Jat, Gurjar, Rajbhar, Teli and Pal should be cautious of their rights.

Referring to the purported remarks by Rahul Gandhi, the PM said the Congress will do an “X-ray” of people’s properties. “They want to investigate your properties. They will also attack your inheritance. They have announced that before family members will get anything, 55% of the property will go to the government,” said Modi.

The BJP has fielded sitting MPs from both Agra and Fatehpur Sikri seat. In the 2019 elections, party’s Rajkumar Chahar secured 64.32% votes on Fatehpur Sikri seat and S P Singh Baghel 56.48% votes.
