After the Samajwadi Party top leadership decided to field his son Aditya Yadav from Badaun Lok Sabha seat, party national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav has become more active in the constituency. He has been camping in Badaun for the past few days to ensure his son’s victory in his debut election.

Shivpal is addressing rallies and meeting party workers, seeking their support for Aditya. The SP had initially declared former MP Dharmendra Yadav — a cousin of party chief Akhilesh Yadav — as its Badaun candidate. Later, it decided to shift Dharmendra to Azamgarh and replace him with Shivpal in Badaun.

However, Shivpal and the local SP unit insisted on Aditya’s candidature and the party agreed to give him a chance. Badaun remains a challenging seat for SP, which lost it to the BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha polls despite having an alliance with the BSP.

The Education Ministry on Thursday appointed directors to six IITs — Kanpur, Guwahati, Dhanbad, Goa, BHU and Jodhpur — in one go. After these appointments, only the director’s post at IIT-Bombay remains vacant.

It is learnt that the government has finalised the names and sent the file to Rashtrapati Bhawan for the final selection.

Professor Shireesh B. Kedare from the department of energy science and engineering at IIT-Bombay is reportedly among the frontrunners for the post.
