Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency: One of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka, Bangalore South, is one of the stronghold seats of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), with the BJP winning the Lok Sabha elections three times consecutively in 2009, 2014, and 2019. Reflecting on the Lok Sabha 2019 elections, the current sitting MP from the BJP, Tejasvi Surya, swept the polls in his favour with a winning margin of 27.87%, defeating B.K. Hariprasad from Congress. Similarly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the seat was won by Ananth Kumar from the BJP with a significant victory margin, defeating Congress's Nandan Nilekani. In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Bangalore South is scheduled to go to the polls in the second phase on April 26, which will witness stiff competition between, Surya re-contesting the elections from the BJP against Congress's Sowmya Reddy to win the parliamentary seat of Bangalore South. Tejasvi Surya, BJP: The current sitting MP of the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency and the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) since September 26, 2020, Tejasivi Surya, is currently seeking re-election from the same seat in the 2024 elections against Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy. Sowmya Reddy, Congress: General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Sowmya Reddy is the daughter of Karnataka Muzrai and Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy. Elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka from Jayanagar in 2018, however, Reddy lost the 2023 Assembly elections lost the election by a narrow margin of 16 votes to BJP candidate C K Ramamurthy. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Reddy is now contesting from Bangalore South as a Congress candidate, determined to become the first woman MP from Bengaluru, against the current sitting MP Tejasvi Surya.
