The Republican convention has kicked off in Cleveland amid tight security and heightened tensions following a series of shootings in the US. The US Republicans opened the convention by nominating Donald Trump as their Presidential candidate. Even as the convention goes, an Anti-Trump rally is in full swing outside the convention. The four day Convention is aimed at Americans to “get to know Donald Trump the man” rather than Trump the candidate, his top campaign aide said on Sunday. According to the website of the Republican National Convention, this GOP marks the fourth time the Republican party will convene its convention in Ohio. The Buckeye State also played host to the 1876, 1924 and 1936 Republican National Conventions in Cincinnati (’76) and Cleveland (’24 and ’36).
