Earlier this week in Los Angeles, police discovered a decomposing, “chopped” body stuffed inside a bag in the front trunk of a Tesla registered to US based singer David Anthony Burke, known by his stage name D4vd. Investigators have now confirmed the body was that of a woman. The car had been abandoned on the street and later towed to a Hollywood yard near Mansfield Avenue and Romaine Street. Five days later, workers noticed a foul smell and alerted police.
With the suspect still at large, LAPD is treating the case as a death probe, not a homicide. The singer, meanwhile, said he will fully cooperate with authorities to get to the bottom of it. ABC’s Eyewitness news, quoting police, reported the woman was 5’2, about 71 pounds, with wavy black hair. She was wearing a tube top, black leggings, a yellow bracelet, and stud earrings. She also had a tattoo on her right index finger that read “Shhh…”. Her identity is still unknown, but investigators revealed she had been dead for some time.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is working to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death. Police said they are looking to question the car’s owner, singer David Anthony Burke, who is currently on his global tour. Officers are searching for more witnesses. At the time of the discovery, D4vd was performing in Wisconsin on his “Withered” world tour and is set to perform in Los Angeles on September 20.
Born on March 28, 2005, in New York City, 20-year-old indie/R&B singer D4vd, has more than 33 million monthly Spotify listeners. He rose to fame with viral tracks like “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me,” going viral on TikTok before debuting on the Billboard charts. Sources told NBC that D4vd is ready to take part in the probe, though it is still unclear why his car became the scene of the crime.
As the news broke, brands like Crocs and Hollister dropped him from their ad campaign released earlier this month, marking their first collaboration. So far, no connection between D4vd and the victim has been established. Despite the controversy, the singer plans to continue his tour and his upcoming Lollapalooza performances. “D4vd has been informed about what’s happened. And, although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities,” a spokesperson told NBC Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The singer does not have a controversial past or history of such acts. He began his online music career by creating montage videos using the video game Fortnite, which eventually helped him go viral on TikTok.
