Two Texas police officers are being hailed as heroes for saving an infant after being pulled from under a vehicle that had flipped completely upside down after a crash, authorities said on Friday as they released the dramatic footage of the incident, showing rescue efforts by the officers along a busy highway, AP reported.

Texas officers, Sgt R Nichols and Officer E Bounds, responded to the reports of a crash on Thursday around 9:30am, where a woman and an infant were involved in a crash and that the child and mother had been ejected from the car.

The Fort Worth police department on Friday released body camera footage on social media that showed an officer running toward an overturned car and beginning to search for the child as a woman is heard in the background crying for her baby. The officer was accompanied by other motorists, who had stopped at the crash site to help the officers lift the car.

After one of the officers realised that the child was pinned beneath the car, he said “Under here, we need to move the car.” The officer urged other motorists to lift the car just enough for him to grab the child’s leg and pull it to safety. The officer said, “Keep moving, keep moving.”

One of the officers after analysing said he felt a pulse as the child remained unresponsive. One of the officers immediately began to perform CPR on the unconscious infant, while the other officer used his finger to push on the child’s chest. The baby, after some time, started to make noises and cried.

In a post on X, Fort Worth police said, “Sgt. R. Nichols and Officer E. Bounds with help from witnesses to the accident, were able to free the trapped infant. Sgt. Nichols immediately began to perform CPR on the unconscious infant, eventually waking the child and keeping her alive until Fort Worth police department arrived on scene. At this time, the woman and infant are in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.”
