Despite the disruption, Ruto remained composed and resumed his speech. (AP Photo)Kenyan President William Ruto narrowly missed being hit by a shoe thrown during a rally in Migori County on Sunday as he addressed public concerns. Videos circulating on social media show Ruto blocking the flying shoe with his arm while speaking on reducing fertiliser prices. “We have said we are reducing the price of fertiliser, true or false?” Ruto said as the shoe bounced off him, kicking up a small cloud of dust.
Despite the disruption, Ruto remained composed and resumed his speech shortly after. Security officers quickly surrounded the President and cleared the area.

Kenya’s Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that three individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident, The Star reported. Authorities said investigations are ongoing, with more suspects potentially being pursued.
The incident triggered sharp responses from Kenyan leaders across the political spectrum. Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi called the act irresponsible. “What if the attacker had a real weapon, like a pistol? Ruto could have been taken out.”
“We’ve taken a joke too far and must protect the Head of State,” National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Nelson Koech said.
Despite the incident, Ruto continued his scheduled engagements.
“We are strengthening our local administration to ensure it is fully equipped to serve the people efficiently,” he said, according to The Star.
