US Election Results 2025: Democrats registered a series of massive victories in the November 4 elections across various races, with Zohran Mamdani winning the New York City mayoral polls and becoming the city’s youngest mayor.

In four significant races—Virginia governor, New Jersey governor, New York City mayor, and California’s Prop 50—the candidates from the Democratic Party achieved decisive victories. Voters expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of the US economy and a general discontent with the country, as noted by CBS News.

The races constituted the first major elections in the US since President Donald Trump assumed office for a second term in January 2025. In NYC, over 2 million New Yorkers cast their ballot on Tuesday, creating the largest turnout in a mayoral race in more than 50 years, according to the city’s Board of Elections, AP reported.

Here’s the full list of winners in the November 4 US elections:

Zohran Mamdani, New York: The 34-year-old Democrat registered a sweeping victory in New York City’s mayoral polls, garnering around 1,036,051 votes, which amounts to 50.4 per cent of the electorate, according to CBS News.

He defeated Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo as well as Trump-backed Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, who managed to secure 41.6 per cent and 7.1 per cent votes, respectively, from the electorate.

In a fiery speech in Brooklyn following his victory, Mamdani trained guns at the US President, and said, “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you. Turn the volume up.”

Addressing the Republican leader directly, the New York mayor-elect said, “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”

Abigail Spanberger, Virginia: Democrat candidate Abigail Spanberger defeated Republican Winsome Earle-Sears to become the first woman to lead the state as the governor. The gubernatorial-elect secured 57.5 per cent of the electoral votes counted so far, beating Earle-Sears, who trailed behind with 42.3 per cent of the votes, according to the poll data on the CBS News website.

“We sent a message to the whole world that in 2025, Virginia chose pragmatism over partisanship. We chose our commonwealth over chaos,” Spanbrger said, ABC News quoted.

In Virginia, Democrat Jay Jones won the election for the state’s attorney general, according to NBC News, defeating Republican Jason Miyares, the incumbent AG who served one term. In his victory speech, Jones said that he looked forward to sitting down with Miyares. He also thanked the outgoing attorney general “for his service to our commonwealth,” NBC quoted.

Democratic State Senator Ghazala Hashmi also became the first Indian-origin Muslim American woman elected to statewide office in the US, securing victory in the Virginia lieutenant governor’s race.

Ghazala’s top priority as the Lt Governor of Virginia would be reproductive freedom. She advocates the right to abortion and access to contraception.

Mikie Sherrill, New Jersey: Democrats also won another governor’s race of the night, with Mikie Sherrill defeating Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli, by securing 56.2 per cent of the votes from the electorate, according to the CBS News poll data.

Sherrill had made the race a referendum on President Trump, sharply criticising him while on the campaign trail, saying that the Trump administration’s policies were “raising costs on everything from a cup of coffee to your groceries,” and pledged to join a lawsuit against Trump’s tariff policies on her first day in office, NBC News reported.

Prop 50, California: Voters approved Proposition 50, a new congressional map drawn by the Democrats in California, giving the party the chance to gain up to five House seats next year. This move will allow state legislators to redistrict before the midterm elections scheduled for next year, in an effort to counter GOP-led gerrymandering in other states, CBS highlighted.

According to CBS News polling, those who supported Prop 50 overwhelmingly cited opposition to the Trump administration as the reason.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, in a speech following the approval of Prop 50, suggested that other Democratic states also redraw their congressional maps. “We need to see other states, with their remarkable leaders that have been doing remarkable things, meet this moment head-on as well,” Newsom said.

SC judges in Pennsylvania: Voters in Pennsylvania approved the retention of three Supreme Court justices on Tuesday, preserving a 5-2 majority of Democrats on the state’s high court.

Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht survived an up-or-down vote to keep their seats on the bench, according to NBC News projections.

While Dougherty and Wecht each won another 10-year term, Donohue will continue to serve until 2027, when she will reach the mandatory retirement age of 75 for justices, according to the report.
