‘100% Communist Lunatic’: Trump after Zohran Mamdani’s New York mayoral primary win

In another post, Trump mocked Democrats, suggesting they nominate “Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President” and give Cabinet roles to “AOC+3”. He added, “Added together with our future Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, and our Country is really SCREWED!”

Who is  Zohran Mamdani?

Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist, declared victory Tuesday night in New York City’s Democratic primary after Andrew Cuomo conceded. With 93 per cent of votes counted, Mamdani led with 43.5 per cent to Cuomo’s 36.4 per cent.

Cuomo praised Mamdani’s efforts, saying he had run a “really smart and good and impactful campaign”.

Mamdani’s platform focused on cost-of-living issues, including rent freezes. His victory has intensified divisions within the Democratic Party, leading to two union leaders resigning from the party’s leadership board.

What’s next?

Since no candidate has crossed the 50 per cent mark, second-choice votes will now be tallied – a process expected to favour Mamdani.

Though Cuomo might run as an independent in November, Mamdani is the frontrunner, given Eric Adams’s unpopularity and the city’s strong Democratic tilt.
