Trump reacts to Minnesota lawmaker shootings: ‘Such horrific violence won’t be tolerated’

US President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the shooting of two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota and described it as a targeted attack.

In a statement shared by Reuters, Trump said, “I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers.”

He added,  “Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America.”

The attack took place at the homes of Representative Melissa Hortman and Senator John Hoffman, in separate suburbs near Minneapolis. Authorities believe the suspect may have impersonated a police officer.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called the incident “politically motivated,” and a manhunt is underway.

Hortman and her husband were killed, while Hoffman and his wife were injured and are being treated.
