Russia plane crash: Angara airline flight carrying nearly 50 crashes in far east

A Russian passenger plane carrying around 50 people crashed in the far eastern Amur region bordering China Thursday, after, Reuters reported quoting an emergencies official. A rescue helicopter located the burning fuselage of the plane.

The plane was reported missing after air traffic controllers lost contact the regional governor, Vasily Orlov, said.

The plane, operated by a Siberia-based airline Angara, dropped off radar screens while approaching its destination of Tynda. A search is underway.

According to preliminary data, there were 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members were on board, the Regional governor added.

“All necessary forces and means have been deployed to search for the plane,” he wrote on Telegram. The emergencies ministry put the number of people on board somewhat lower, at around 40.
