‘Attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me was a grave mistake’: Netanyahu after drone targets home

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Netanyahu asserted that the attack "will not deter him or Israel" from continuing the "just war against our enemies in order to secure our future."

Hours after a drone targeted his house in the Mediterranean coastal town of Caesarea, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Saturday said “the attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate him and his wife was a grave mistake.”

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Netanyahu asserted that the attack “will not deter him or Israel” from continuing the “just war against our enemies in order to secure our future.”

He further warned Iran and its proxies saying, “Anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price.”

Stating that Israel will “continue to eliminate the terrorists and those who dispatch them,” the PM stressed that Israeli hostages will be brought home from Gaza. “And we will return our citizens who live on our Northern border safely to their homes,” Netanyahu said.

“Israel is determined to achieve all our war objectives and change the security reality in our region for generations to come.”

Earlier, the Israeli government had said that a drone targeted the prime minister’s house Saturday, though there were no casualties. Israel’s military also stated some 55 projectiles were fired in two separate barrages at northern Israel from Lebanon.

The barrage comes as Israel considers its expected response to an Iranian attack earlier this month and presses its offensives against Hamas militants in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Pledges from Israel and its enemies Hamas and Hezbollah to keep fighting in Gaza and Lebanon have dashed hopes that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar might hasten an end to more than a year of escalating war in the Middle East.

Sinwar, widely thought to be a mastermind of the October 7, 2023, attack that triggered the Gaza war, was killed by Israeli soldiers in the Palestinian enclave on Wednesday.
