‘Musk doing a great job, wants him to be more aggressive in reform push’: Trump

“Elon is doing a great job, but I would like to see him get more aggressive,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Saturday. “Remember, we have a country to save, but ultimately, to make greater than ever before. MAGA!”

Donald Trump’s fusillade of executive orders expanding his powers in some extreme ways in his cost-cutting fervor, coupled with unprecedented drives by his wealthiest backer, the multibillionaire Elon Musk-led so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge) to slash many agency workforces and regulations, have definitely created chaos across the US government and raised fears of a threat to US democracy, but guess what – that’s not enough.

The US President on Saturday said he wants his billionaire advisor to hit the gas on his mission to downsize the federal government, urging him to take an even tougher stance on cutting public spending.

Musk, the world’s richest person and Trump’s top donor, has been at the helm of the newly created DOGE—a free-ranging task force charged with slashing bureaucracy, eliminating waste, and rooting out what Trump calls “deep state corruption.”

His latest target: the US Defense Department, which announced Friday it will trim its civilian workforce by at least five percent starting next week.

Trump’s administration has also ramped up dismissals of federal employees still on probationary status, a move that has sparked legal challenges. A judge on Thursday denied a union bid to temporarily halt the firings, dealing a blow to opponents of the mass layoffs.

Despite mounting pushback and a mix of court rulings, Musk’s agency remains full throttle. It remains to be seen whether the DOGE initiative proves to be a revolution in government efficiency or continues to be just an administrative wrecking ball but one thing’s certain: Trump wants it done faster.
