South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nkosinathi Emmanuel “Nathi” Mthethwa, was found dead at the foot of a hotel tower in Paris, French newspaper Le Parisien reported on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the Paris police said they could not comment. Repeated calls to the South African Embassy went unanswered, according to Reuters. The embassy’s website says Mthethwa served as South Africa’s minister of arts and culture from 2014 to 2019, and later as minister of sport, arts and culture from 2019 to 2023. Le Parisien reported that Mthethwa’s wife had raised the alarm after receiving a text message from him that worried her. She then reported him missing.
