Airstrikes and explosions are rocking Yemen's capital of Sanaa and key military installations held by the country's Shiite rebels, as a bombing campaign launched by Saudi Arabia and its allies stretched into its second day. Military officials in Yemen say heavy airstrikes early Friday also targeted Saada, the northern stronghold of the Shiite rebels known as Houthis. The officials say other airstrikes targeted army camps run by commanders loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Military units loyal to Saleh are fighting alongside the Houthis, who swept out of their northern strongholds in recent weeks and have taken over much of the country. The military action is growing into a regional conflict, turning impoverished and chaotic Yemen into a new front in the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
