A British man was arrested on Monday after he ploughed his minivan into fans celebrating the victory of their football club Liverpool in the Premier League Championship in England, an incident that has injured nearly four dozen people, including four children.
Authorities have said that the incident involved only the 53-year-old man who was driving the minivan and no one else was involved, ruling out the possibility of an act of terrorism. “The man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area,” Merseyside police said in a statement.
Thousands of people had joined the hour-long victory procession of Liverpool Football Club under heavy security along a 10-mile (16 kilometer) route, the club which won the Premier League trophy this season. Police are yet to determine the motive and reason behind the car smashing the fans.

According to an eyewitness statement, the collision took place 10 minutes after the bus carrying the Liverpool FC team members passed by. Videos on social media showed a dark-coloured vehicle with a broken rear window, smashing into a crowd and hitting parade goers, BBC reported.

According to Jenny Sims, Assistant Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, “What I can tell you is that we believe this to be an isolated incident and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism.”
A total of 47 people have been reported to be injured in the vehicle collision and multiple reports suggest that 27 people were taken to hospital as per the ambulance service. Of those, one adult and a child were seriously injured. Another 20 people were treated on the scene, including four children.
A BBC report stated that a paramedic on bike was hurt in the incident when the vehicle rammed the pedestrians, but was not seriously injured. Four people got stuck beneath the vehicle after the incident and were pulled out safely by the firefighters. None of the victims were identified by the officials.
The dark-coloured minivan, which struck the pedestrians celebrating the victory of Liverpool FC in the Premier League Championship, was reportedly being driven by the 53-year-old man who has been arrested from the site of the incident.
Police believe it to be an isolated incident and the man is suspected to be from the Liverpool area in Britain.
