The Israeli administration has announced a pause in military activities in the areas of Gaza City, Deir al-Balah and Muwasi in Gaza where it is not operating until further notice, Reuters reported. The Israeli military has said that pause in its activities will be centred around three areas of Gaza, starting Sunday onwards.
The development comes as Israel announced resuming aid air drops to Gaza on Saturday and was taking several other steps to ease the humanitarian crisis in Palestine after mounting international pressure. The Israeli military had said that “humanitarian corridors” would be established for safe movement of United Nations convoys delivering aid to Gaza citizens.
In accordance with directives from the political echelon, and as part of the IDF’s ongoing effort, led by COGAT, to increase the scale of humanitarian aid entering Gaza, a local tactical pause in military activity will take place for humanitarian purposes from 10:00 to 20:00,… pic.twitter.com/y7gTmtfidj

The Israeli military informed that hostilities in Muwasi, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City would remain suspended from 10am to 8pm local time every day until further notice by the administration, beginning Sunday. The military said it was not operating in the three listed areas but there has been fighting and strikes in the region in the recent weeks.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also said that it would designate secure routes for the help of aid agencies to deliver food and other supplies to people across Gaza.
In a post on X, the IDF said “The IDF will continue to support humanitarian efforts alongside ongoing maneuvering and offensive operations against terrorist organizations in Gaza, in order to protect Israeli civilians. The IDF is prepared to expand the scale of this activity as required.”
Ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas have repeatedly stalled or failed, with Israel and the US recently recalling their negotiating teams, blaming Hamas.
Israel launched its assault on Gaza after Hamas-led fighters stormed Israeli towns near the border, killing around 1,200 people and capturing 251 hostages on October 7, 2023. Since then, Israeli forces have killed nearly 60,000 people in Gaza, according to its health ministry, and reduced much of the enclave to ruins.
470,000 people in Gaza are facing catastrophic hunger, as per the World Food Programme reports. The report also projects an alarming 71,000 children and more than 17,000 mothers will need urgent treatment for acute malnutrition. At the beginning of 2025, agencies estimated 60,000 children would need treatment.
