“Hampton University has received notice of a potential threat and has ceased all non-essential activity, effective immediately. The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors remain our highest priority,” the university said in a post on social media.
“Alabama State University has received a terroristic threat directed at our campus. Out of an abundance of caution, the University has shut down campus operations until further notice,” ASU said.

“HBCU campuses are facing threats today. Clark Atlanta, Spelman College & Morehouse are sheltering in place. Hampton & Alabama State have cancelled activities. For the love of America, left or right, let us speak out against this violence and seek to heal with peace & grace,” Ro Khanna, the California Democrat Rep, said on X.

Though the nature of the threats is unclear, they came just a day after Charlie Kirk, a pro-Trump conservative influencer, was shot dead during an event at Utah University. The event in Orem, Utah, was part of his “The American Comeback Tour.” The suspect who shot Kirk in the neck while he was debating with students is still at large.
