The US-backed aid group Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has stated that it will not distribute any aid on Wednesday as it calls for Israel to boost safety infrastructure for civilians beyond the perimeter of the distribution site, amid United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) scheduled vote on Wednesday on a resolution that demands “an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza respected by all parties.”

A day after dozens of Palestinians who were seeking aid from GHF were killed, the aid group said it has asked the Israeli military to “guide foot traffic in a way that minimizes confusion or escalation risks” near the perimeters of military, develop a lucid guidance for civilians, and enhance training to support safety of the civilians.

The UNSC resolution, drafted by 10 elected countries who serve a two-year tenure, demands to release all hostages held by militant group Hamas and others following their surprise attack on Israel in October 2023 which started the conflict. The resolution called the situation in Gaza “catastrophic”.

The proposed UN Security Council’s resolution also demands “the immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and its safe and unhindered distribution at scale, including by the UN and humanitarian partners.”

A GHF spokesperson said “Our top priority remains ensuring the safety and dignity of civilians receiving aid,” as the Israeli military warned the civilians against moving in areas leading to GHF sites, as they have deemed the region as “combat zones”.

The Israeli military had opened fire on a group of people near the GHF food distribution site on Tuesday as it viewed them as a threat. The International Committee of the Red Cross said at least 27 people were killed and dozens injured. The GHF had said the incident was “well beyond” its site.
