However, member countries managed to coordinate on areas such as global tech, security, and crisis response. PM Narendra Modi and Canadian PM Mark Carney “agreed to take calibrated steps to restore stability to the relationship” and decided to restore High Commissioners to each other’s capitals.

PM Modi calls for action against terrorism: PM Modi, while addressing the G7 Outreach Session, urged countries to strongly act against terrorism. “Terrorism is the enemy of humanity and threatens all nations that uphold democratic values. There must be no ambiguity: if a country supports terrorism, it must be held accountable,” he said. “While we are quick to impose sanctions on various issues, the same urgency must be applied to terrorism.”

G7 Summit News LIVE Updates: As the summit comes to an end, here are five key takeaways

1. Trump's sudden walkout: US President's early departure over events rapidly unfolding between Israel and Iran highlighted internal discord but paved the way for a bilateral U.S.–U.K. trade framework.

2. No agreement on Ukraine: Trump's early exit led to no unified stance on the Ukraine-Russia situation and while US did not commit to anything, Canada pledged $2 billion CAD in military aid.

3. Zelensky on global disharmony: Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that global diplomacy is in crisis, pointing to a fractured G7 unity.

4. Iran-Israel conflict: Leaders raised concern over the rising tensions between the two nations urging de-escalation and reaffirmed a firm stance against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.

5. AI, mineral regulation: Despite rifts between nations, the G7 found common ground on regulating AI, securing critical minerals, tackling migrant smuggling, addressing wildfires, and advancing quantum technology.

G7 Summit News LIVE Updates: PM Modi's presence at G7 summit reflection of India's global leadership, says Canadian PM Mark Carney

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's attendance at the G7 summit is a reflection of the size of the Indian economy, the dynamism of the Indian economy, Canadian Prime Minister said.

“In terms of Prime Minister Modi's attendance at the G7, Prime Minister Modi has attended every G7 since 2018, which is a reflection of the size of the Indian economy, the dynamism of the Indian economy, Indian technology, the leadership position India plays in a host of venues from G20 and beyond,” Carney said at a press conference as the G7 Leaders' Summit wrapped up here.

“So as chair of the G7, hosting the prime minister in that context is entirely natural, entirely consistent. I fully expect the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister of India, will be in attendance at the G7 next year,” Carney said.

"But I would describe it as foundational, as a necessary first step, an exchange of views, frank, open exchange of views around law enforcement, transnational repression, an agreement to provide the necessary foundations to begin to rebuild a relationship based on mutual respect, sovereignty and trust," he added.

G7 Summit News LIVE Updates: Zelenskyy arrives at G7, Canada commits more aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Canada on Tuesday to urge the Group of Seven to provide more backing for the war against Russia even after US President Donald Trump left the summit early due to developments in the Middle East.

Zelenskyy started his day by meeting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who said Ottawa would provide C$2 billion ($1.47 billion) in new military assistance for Kyiv as well as impose new financial sanctions. A Russian attack overnight on Kyiv that killed 12 people "underscores the importance of standing in total solidarity with Ukraine," he said.

Carney said when G7 leaders met for dinner on Monday, they stressed the importance of using "maximum pressure against Russia" to force it to start serious peace talks. "We are ready for the peace negotiations, unconditional ceasefire - I think it's very important. But for this, we need pressure," Zelenskyy replied.

G7 Summit News LIVE Updates: Trump had called Justin Trudeau 'very dishonest and weak' at previous G7 summit

The last time a G7 Summit was held in Canada, Donald Trump was the US President and in attendance. His presence at the 2018 Quebec summit came on the heels of his country announcing steel and aluminium tariffs on Canada, Mexico and Europe. The image of him sitting with his hands crossed, while a group of leaders led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel confronted him, would define the chaos that ensued.

Trump had then demanded that Russia be re-admitted into the grouping, following the expulsion after its annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014. He left the summit early while denouncing then-Canadian PM Justin Trudeau as “very dishonest and weak”, and ordered the US delegation in attendance not to sign the joint communique.

G7 Summit News LIVE Updates: Modi and the G7 summit: Engaging with a divided West | Column

As one reflects on the ongoing G7 summit in Canada, it’s easy to be distracted by the anti-India protests orchestrated by Khalistani groups or to be perturbed by US President Donald Trump’s recurring assertions about mediating peace between India and Pakistan. But the summit has much bigger fish to fry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation comes at a time of profound geopolitical flux and mounting divisions within the G7 itself.

Once a symbol of strategic unity among the world’s leading democracies, the G7 now reflects deep internal contradictions — across trade, technology, climate, and regional security in Europe, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific. Though India is not a member, its regular presence at the summit affords Delhi a critical platform to advance national interests, elevate its diplomatic profile, and contribute to shaping a new multipolar order. For Modi, this is an opportunity to assess first-hand the new dynamics within the West and make the best of them to promote India’s security and prosperity. C Raja Mohan writes

The Kremlin said on Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump was right to assert that it had been a big mistake to expel Russia from the Group of Eight in 2014, but that the G7 was no longer significant for Russia and looked "rather useless" now.

Trump said at a Group of Seven summit in Canada on Monday that the G8 had been wrong to kick out Russia

in 2014 after it annexed Crimea from Ukraine.

"This was a big mistake," Trump said, adding he believed Russia would not have invaded Ukraine in 2022 had President Vladimir Putin not been ejected from the leaders' club. He said Putin "basically doesn't even speak to the people that threw him out, and I agree with him".

G7 Summit News LIVE Updates: Trump slams Macron as French President claims POTUS made Iran-Israel ceasefire offer at G7

US President Donald Trump, on Tuesday (June 16), slammed French President Emmanuel Macron over his remarks where he said that POTUS made an offer for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran at the G7 summit.

Calling Macron a "Publicity seeking President", Trump said that the ceasefire was not why he cut short his visit, hinting at a "much bigger" move for his abrupt exit.

"Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire” between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social handle.
