US President Donald Trump attended the New York Yankees game on Thursday night, drawing a mixed reaction from a raucous crowd as the nation marked the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The stadium held a pregame ceremony to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11, the tragic event that claimed nearly 3,000 lives in 2001. A moment of silence was also held in memoriam of Charlie Kirk, who was killed Wednesday at a Utah university event. Trump watched the game from a secure glass-enclosed suite alongside Yankees team president Randy Levine. When his face appeared on the jumbotron during the national anthem, the crowd responded with both boos and cheers. In the second inning, Trump's presence was officially announced. “Hail to the Chief” played over the stadium speakers while he was shown on the big screen for an extended period. Some boos were heard at first, but many fans then stood and applauded. Before the game, Trump also stopped by the Yankee clubhouse and met with the Yankees captain Aaron Judge, players and staff members and talked about being close for years with late, longtime Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.9/11 Ceremony at the PentagonBefore arriving at the game, when the President attended the September 11 observance ceremony at the Pentagon, authorities moved the ceremony inside as an added precaution. The change in venue came one day after Trump’s ally, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was shot and killed during an event at a university in Utah.
