An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Wednesday, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

The quake was at a depth of 75 km (46 miles), NCS said, and the epicentre 164 km east of Baghlan, a city with a population of about 108,000.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) first reported the quake at a magnitude of 6.4.
