Pongal 2025 Date: Pongal, one of the most significant Hindu festivals of South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, is celebrated with great reverence and joy.
The four-day celebration of the harvest season is marked by honouring the Sun God for providing warmth and energy essential for agricultural prosperity.
During the festival, families come together and celebrate their shared agricultural roots, with homes decorated with rangoli (colourful patterns).
Additionally, the traditional Pongal dish is made from newly harvested rice and is further offered to the Sun God.
Further, the day is marked with prayers, rituals, and expressions of gratitude for the abundant harvest and the natural elements that make it possible.
According to the Tamil solar calendar, Thai Pongal is the first day of the month of Thai, with the festival typically falling around the same time as Makar Sankranti in North India, Lohri in Punjab, and Uttarayan in Gujarat.
This year, Pongal will start on January 14, 2025 (Tuesday) and continue for four days, concluding on January 17, 2025 (Friday).
