Mohini Ekadashi 2025: Ekadashi is regarded as one of the most significant and auspicious days in Hinduism. On this day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi to seek their blessings. They also observe fasting to promote spiritual awakening and liberation from past sins.
Ekadashi, observed during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the Hindu month of Vaishakha, is marked as Mohini Ekadashi; it primarily falls during late April to May, according to the Gregorian calendar.
On the day of Ekadashi, devotees should mark the day by taking a ritual bath in the morning and vow to fast, either without water (nirjal) or by solely eating fruits (phalahar).
Further, devotees should worship Lord Vishnu with devotion and offer Tulsi leaves to him, and on the following day, Dwadashi, break the fast by giving food and charity to a Brahmin.
According to Drik Panchang, Mohini Ekadashi will be observed on Thursday, 8 May 2025. Devotees can break their fast between 05:35 AM and 08:17 AM on Friday, 9 May; the dwadashi period will conclude at 2:56 PM on the same day.
The ritual of breaking fast is called Parana, and according to the belief, devotees should not break the fast outside of the Parana timings, as it is considered highly inauspicious and improper.
According to Hindu mythology, Mohini Ekadashi is named after Lord Vishnu’s Mohini avatar, where during the Samudra Manthan, Vishnu disguised himself as an enchantress to distribute the amrita.
According to Drik Panchang, the story (vrath katha) of Mohini Ekadash signifies and teaches that an individual shall always keep company with saints, as not only do they get good sense, but also their life gets redeemed; whereas keeping company with sinners leads to the pathway to hell.
