Kamada Ekadashi is the first Ekadashi which falls in the Hindu month of Chaitra, observed after Chaitra Navratri and Ram Navami in the Shukla Paksha phase, which usually corresponds to March or April, according to the Gregorian calendar.
As we observe Kamada Ekadashi today, with it marking ‘Hindi New Year’, here’s all you need to know.
According to Drik Panchang, Kamada Ekadashi will be falling on Tuesday, April 8, this year (2025), with the Ekadashi tithi beginning at 8 PM on April 7 and concluding at 9:12 PM on April 8.
On this day, devotees keep a fast, and Parana tithi is the auspicious moment to break the fast – which falls between 6:02 AM to 8:34 AM on April 9, while the Dwadashi end moment is at 10:55 PM.
Translating into “wish-fulfilling”, Kamada Ekadashi’s story can be traced back to Lord Krishna informing Arjun that by fasting on Kamada Ekadashi, a man has all his wishes fulfilled, achieves salvation from all sins, including Brahmahatya and the worldly existence of devils, and purges himself of all sins, as mentioned in Drik Panchang.
