Assam Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Assam concluded with phase 3 polling on Tuesday, May 07. Phases 1 and 2 covered five constituencies each, while Phase 3 covered the remaining four constituencies of the state. Assam saw continuous growth in voter turnout as it saw 78.25 per cent, 81.17 per cent and 81.71 per cent in three phases, respectively, taking the total voter turnout percentage to 80.37 per cent in the state. The state will now take a back seat as after four more phases of polling, the official results will finally be announced on Tuesday, June 4.
Assam, along with holding a good amount of Lok Sabha seats in their account, has a major significance during any Lok Sabha Elections as the state shares boundaries with countries like Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Before 2014, Congress had a stronghold over the Lok Sabha seats of the state, but since then the party has been on a constant decline, making room for BJP to establish the state as their own strong hold.
BJP, who won 7 out of the 14 seats during the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, improved their tally in 2019 taking the total number of seats to 9, their highest ever. The General Elections of 2024 become even more important as BJP will be trying to improve their number of seats even further and the Congress will be looking to make a strong comeback.
The Lok Sabha Elections in Assam, will contested in the first half of the election period, as per the ECI (Election Commission of India), the polling in the state will be held on April 19, April 26 and May 7.

Phase 3: Date of polling- May 7
The number of phases during the General Elections in Assam, often ranges from three to four phases, similarly in 2024, the General Elections in the state will once again be hosted in three phases, i.e., phase 1, phase 2 and phase 3.
Assam ranks 14th, in the list of states with the most number of Lok Sabha seats with 14, out of which 11 seats are unreserved, two seats are reserved for ST candidates, while one seat is reserved for SC candidates. During the 2019 elections, BJP came out on top as the biggest party in the state with nine seats, while INC came second with just three seats in their account.

In the upcoming mega elections of 2024, BJP-led NDA will be hoping to increase the number of seats in 2024, than that of in 2019, citing their continuous rise in the state’s political landscape. However, INC with the help of their newly formed I.N.D.I.A alliance will be looking to make a strong show and make a historical comeback in the centre.
