A government school teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district has landed in hot water after a video of her oiling her hair while playing an old Bollywood song in the classroom went viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
The incident took place at Mundakheda Primary School in Khurja block, according to an India Today report. The now-viral video, recorded on July 19 during regular school hours, shows the teacher casually seated on a chair, applying oil to her hair while the song Bada Natkhat Hai Yeh from the film Amar Prem plays in the background.
Meanwhile, students can be seen sitting quietly, watching her instead of participating in any academic activity.
As reported by India Today, district Basic Education Officer Laxmikant Pandey confirmed that the teacher has been suspended with immediate effect. “An order has been issued, and the incident is under investigation,” Pandey told the outlet.
The clip quickly spread across social media, with users criticising not just the teacher but also the state of public education in Uttar Pradesh. One user commented, “She should be suspended immediately and she can do whatever she wants to do at home.”
Another viewer shared a more sarcastic take, saying, “Lmao ye to sirf tel maalish kar rahi thi. Hamare yaha government schools mai to teachers dhaniya palak lasan chil rahi hoti hai saara din and sir log chai sutta. (Lmao, she was just oiling her hair. In our government schools, teachers spend the day peeling coriander, spinach, and garlic while the male staff sip tea and smoke.)”
Someone else pointed out the larger issue, writing, “This is the sad reality of our government schools. While children deserve attention and good education, the teacher is busy doing oil massage and enjoying music in class. Who will take responsibility for this carelessness?”
Another frustrated user quipped, “Bacchon ki neend isliye kharaab kiye hein.. taki madam ko baal mein tel lagate dekhein. The Indian Education system is the worst. Games period hi kar deti… Bahut kuch seekh hi lete khelte khelte.” (The kids’ nap was disturbed just so they could watch madam oil her hair. The Indian education system is the worst. She could’ve at least declared it games period, they would’ve learned more while playing.)
