A ticket checker’s swift action helped save an elderly man who suffered a heart attack on a moving train. According to the post by the official handle of the Ministry of Railways, a 70-year-old man travelling on Amrapali Express was revived by the travelling ticket examiner (TTE).
The incident took place in the train’s general coach, and the man was later transported to a hospital from Bihar’s Chhapra railway station. A viral clip captures the TTE performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man, who was still conscious at the time. This sparked a backlash, as several users pointed out that CPR is typically recommended only for unconscious individuals.

The video, which has garnered over 254,000 views, has divided opinions on the Internet. While some criticised the video, others praised the TTE for his quick response. A user wrote, “Yes, you should give cpr when patient is unconscious/unresponsive. He is awake in the given video !! That’s not recommended.” Another user commented, “Great…!!Indian Railway must appoint a doctor in each and every train for the passengers convenience.”
“Who gives CPR when patient is conscious,” a third user wrote. “Is important that the general public is made more aware on CPR. When & when not, how to attempt CPR,” another user commented.
In September, another ticket checker on Pawan Express travelling from Darbhanga to Varanasi won plaudits after he revived a 65-year-old man who suffered a heart attack.
The man was in a first-class coach when he experienced a sharp pain in his chest and passed out. His brother reached out to the Railways’ RailMadad portal, which sent an alert to Savind Kumar, the ticket checker aboard, reports said.
