Salman is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful actors in Indian cinema by the Indian media.

He began his career as a supporting actor in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988), before making his breakthrough as a leading actor in Sooraj Barjatya’s romantic drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
