Angry that he was not served enough paneer at a wedding celebration, a minibus driver crashed his vehicle into the mandap in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli on Saturday night, injuring six people, The Free Press Journal reported.

The groom’s father and five others, including the bride’s uncle, were seriously injured in the crash in Hamidpur village, the report said, adding that an investigation is underway.

The driver, identified as Dharmendra Yadav aka “Bamboo”, had earlier transported the wedding guests (baratis) to the venue. When he requested more paneer at the food counter and was allegedly denied the same, he got furious and drove the vehicle straight into the mandap.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, and two of them were admitted to the trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for further care.

The incident briefly halted the celebrations. The wedding ceremony, scheduled for Saturday night, was held on Sunday morning with the help of elders and the police.

In another bizarre event at a wedding-related function in Uttar Pradesh, a woman, claiming to be the bride’s girlfriend, interrupted an engagement ceremony in February. According to reports, she alleged that they had been in a four-year-long live-in relationship and that the bride had turned down three marriage proposals during that time.

The bride and the woman are said to have studied at the same coaching centre in 2021. According to reports, the two decided to live together and turned down multiple marriage proposals. The woman claimed that the bride had threatened to take her own life if she was forced to marry anyone else, and had promised to keep their same-sex relationship a secret.

In another wedding ceremony, the inebriated groom accidentally garlanded the bride’s best friend, prompting the bride to call off the nuptials. According to reports, on realising his mistake, he then garlanded a male friend and an elderly guest, leaving the guests stunned. The bride further slapped the groom and walked out of the ceremony.
