A video of Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy singing an Elvis Presley song at the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit has been warming hearts online. The romantic gesture was for his wife and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty.
In the now-viral Instagram video, the Infosys co-founder can be seen seated on the stage, microphone in one hand and his smartphone on the other––probably for the lyrics––as he sings the Presley classic Can’t Help Falling in Love.
The video was posted along with the caption, “Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy sings an Elvis classic at the Global Leadership Summit, dedicating it to his wife Sudha Murthy!”
In response, one user wrote, “He knows the real music tho.” Another user commented, “Pookie Murty.”
While speaking at the event, Murthy reaffirmed his support for a six-day workweek, and said hard work and dedication are necessary for India’s economic progress. “I am sorry, I have not changed my view. I will take this with me to my grave,” he said.
Taking a jibe at Murthy’s earlier comment encouraging young professionals to work 70-hours per week, an Instagram user commented, “Ye 70 ghante me count hoga kya? (Will this time be counted in those 70 hours?)”
According to Murthy, India’s progress depends on its citizens’ willingness to make sacrifices. He views hard effort as an obligation rather than as a personal value, particularly for people who have profited from India’s publicly-sponsored educational system.
