Nagaland Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along often uses the microblogging platform X to promote lesser-known tourist attractions in the northeastern states of India. On Wednesday, the BJP leader shared a mesmerising video of Arunachal Pradesh’s Dong Valley.

It is widely believed that Dong Valley in Arunachal Pradesh experiences the first sunrise in India, owing to its eastern location. Thanks to this belief, Arunachal Pradesh is also called ‘India’s Land of the Rising Sun’.

Commenting on Along’s video an X user wrote, “Beauty of North East is unmatched, be it nature or people.” Another person wrote, “I truly believe all the state governments need to work more in promoting tourism by showcasing the hidden gems like this for their respective states. A lot more no of people would start travelling across India to experience these breathtaking views.”

In recent years, tourists have started undertaking an eight-kilometre trek from the town of Walong to Dong village, which is the easternmost village in India, to catch the early sunrise at 4 am.

In May this year, Along shared a small clip that gave a glimpse into the picturesque village of Zapami, located 53 km away from Nagaland’s capital Kohima. While sharing this clip, Along wrote, “A journey that connects us to our roots, leaving us in awe of the rich history and culture.”

The video shows how the small village, surrounded by terraced rice fields, has preserved its history through a locally managed heritage museum. The Village Heritage Museum not only showcases the craftsmanship of the locals but also holds remnants from World War II.
