Industrialist Harsh Goenka took to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday to share his viewpoint on Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy’s remark exhorting Indian youngsters to work 70 hours a week.
The 65-year-old chairman of RPG Enterprises said the “5-day office week is dead”. He said people are working nearly 33 per cent of their office time remotely and termed it a “game-changer”.
“Flexibility is worth as much to people as an 8% raise,” he said. Goenka said people now value their time and skipping the daily commute gives a sense of flexibility.
“Hybrid work is the present and the future. It’s all about blending office and remote work to suit your needs. It’s no longer about working 50 or 70 hours, but about your own ambition, your purpose, and your productivity,” he wrote.
Goenka said now is the time to prioritise what truly matters in your work life. “Embrace the shift, adapt to the new work landscape, and find your sweet spot between office and home,” he said.
When a user commented that this looked like ChatGPT content, Goenka replied, “Those who don’t use technology to their advantage will become…” using a dinosaur emoji.
“Flexibility is hugely valuable for motivation, creativity, and work-life harmony. Companies that rigidly cling to outdated norms around presence risk losing top talent and hampering innovation. Saving commutation time is beneficial for both employees and the organization,” a user said.
“Not a fan of working from home, though this can depend on your role. In india if you give flexibility we will will make it our birth right. Instead hardnose it, Wednesday work from home, the rest of the day’s work from office,” wrote another.
“Productivity has gone another level since remote working started. Companies should recognise this as a win-win method. Employees who are comfortable with hybrid working and producing good results should be given the space to continue to that,” another netizen posted.
