India has long been criticised for showing no civic sense in public places. Be it spitting paan on the streets of London to eating with hands on board a subway, several incidents in recent times have ignited debate and outrage on social media. Recently, an Indian vlogger, Stephen T, caused a stir after a video of him criticising noisy Indians at a picturesque location in Bhutan went viral.

In the Reel, Stephen is seen sharing his stance on several Indians who fail to keep it down in public places, therefore, leading to stereotypes against the country. “Why are Indians so loud?”, Stephen says in an aggravating tone. “Everywhere they go, it’s just noise. Can’t we just respect the peace of the other country? It just makes it embarrassing for me as well and for other Indians,” he adds while walking through the tourist spot.

As the video progresses, he approaches his mother sitting at a spot. “Am I right, mother? Indians have a bad habit of being loud everywhere they go, right?” he asks.

“Yes, I fully agree. Sometimes, I am ashamed to be (Indian)…,” she responds. “Yes. Even I am ashamed to be a part of all this,” he concludes the video.

Sharing the video, Stephen wrote, “No wonder people from other countries don’t like the Indian crowd as such.”

The video quickly gained attention, igniting a conversation on public decency among Indians. “Not only loud very rude and irritating as well,” a user wrote. “I am ashamed of North Indian but completely proud of South Indian—Kerala. People here are so well-mannered and respectful. No honking, no loud noise, no loud talking, no music system disturbing others. Civic sense is absolutely up to the mark clean surroundings, no dirt, no tobacco, nothing,” another user commented.

“Many people lack civic sense. But instead of acknowledging they just deny the fact. Instead learn and educate others,” a third user reacted.
