Prathamesh Samadhan Javkar won gold at Archery World Cup 2023 Stage II championship as he defeated world No. 1 Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands.

Prathamesh Samadhan Javkar put Indian archery on the world map when he won gold at Archery World Cup 2023 Stage II championship. The championship, which concluded on Saturday in Shanghai, saw the 19-year-old defeating world No. 1 Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands to win the top spot.

Following his win, a number of celebrities, including director S S Rajamouli, DJ and TV personality Nikhil Chinapa, and singer Guru Randhawa, congratulated Javkar.

On Sunday, business tycoon Anand Mahindra also retweeted a video of Javkar’s winning moment. Mahindra wrote, “Just incredible. He seems like he has nerves of steel and a laser-sharp focus. A champion in the making.” Mahindra also wished Javkar the best for the upcoming Archery World Cup final scheduled to be held in Hermosillo in September.

Commenting on Mahindra’s post, a Twitter user wrote, “This is fantastic – hope he continues to be in this mode and continues to win many more laurels including Olympics!”.

Another person observed, “Unfortunately, archery is an expensive sport. A normal compound bow of the type he is using costs ~INR 30k. The bow that he is using will easily cost lacs. Plus India does not have many archery ranges that folks can use to take this up as a serious sport. Needs govt. Investments.”
