Maitri Mangal, an Indian software engineer at Google, recently shared her cost of living in New York City, garnering an array of reactions. In a collaboration video with popular podcaster Kushal Lodha, Mangal broke down her monthly expenses and the pay scale for general roles at the tech giant.
The now-viral video shows Mangal at her apartment, revealing the monthly cost of living, from groceries to rent. Her monthly budget stands at $5,000. She shares that she pays around $3,000 for rent, while her daily expenses, including outings, cost between $1,000 to $2,000. For transportation, Mangal spends around $100 to $200.
Further, she suggests that the average salary for a software engineer working in New York City, ranges from $1,50,000 to $2,00,000 per annum. Sharing the video, Lodha wrote, “What’s the average package at Google? I asked Maitri, a Software Engineer at Google, and she shared that it’s around ₹1.6 Crores in general across roles! Then I asked her, how much does it cost to actually live in New York? From rent to groceries, she breaks down her monthly expenses, and it’s eye opening!”
